Inner Active Cards for Tom Holmes‘ book “Parts Work”
The set of cards drawn by Sharon Eckstein includes the images of the personality traits in the book by Tom Holmes, as well as other images for personality traits. The cards help clients better recognize and categorize their own personality parts. They teach us to step back and take an objective, compassionate look at our parts and their dynamics.
The cards are a professional tool for people working in helping, counseling, social professions, such as psychotherapists, psychologists, doctors, nurses and social workers. They can be used for IFS (Internal Family System) or any other therapy, as well as for personal exploration.
The concept of personality traits is universal. It describes the image of archetypes in a way that people, regardless of their creed, color, race, gender and age, can feel addressed.
The card deck includes 75 colored cards (4th edition). The short description on the back of the cover is in English, the cards themselves have no text.
In the 4th edition, there are no new images. However, the colors are a bit more vibrant.
Card set from Zaatari refugee camp
In addition to the Inner Active Cards, Tom Holmes had a card deck printed with images drawn by Syrian artists living in the Zaatari Syrian refugee camp in Jordan. The images were created in a project that combined Tom Holmes Parts Work with Islamic tradition and psychology. In the pictures, the artists processed their experiences with flight and life in the camp.
The proceeds from the sale of these card sets (minus shipping and taxes) will go entirely to the artists from the Syrian Zaatari refugee camp. Tom will make sure the proceeds get there.
The description on the back of the sleeve is in German, an English translation is inside; the cards themselves have no text.
Unlike the Inner Active Cards, the Zaatari cards are less well suited for Parts Work. They are wonderful for working with refugees, and they work well as resource cards (not all of them, but many). This is also how I learned about them in a workshop by Tom Holmes.

New card deck: Black Experiences
Like the Inner Active Cards, the cards in this set can be used for inner parts work. With their help, clients can identify inner parts, represent and visualize them through cards and tell their stories.
The motifs were created by the African-American artist Kenji Jumanne-Marshall and exclusively depict people of color. Tom Holmes initiated the project, PoC therapists and their clients inspired the creation of the cards. The cards are intended to reflect the special experiences of people of color (in the USA).
